changes not taking effect

I have an ear deployment file, and I've added a jar and modify some tld in there. Tried updating the deployment, but the changes didn't take effect. I need to delete the previous instance and creating a new one that points to the same ear file, then the changes took effect. is there anything wrong? what is it should be done if I want the changes to take effect without deleting and creating a new instance, because this approach is not ideal in production environment. thanks

try deplying the ear file as an exploded directory then you can update files inside of it by pressing "update"
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
