why subversion ?

hi, i have see so many people using cvs ..can i know what is so good in subversion as compare to cvs and other version control system ? why there is necessary to change over from cvs to Subversion ..thank you

I guess one of the reasons is that it would be nice to be able to version control your directories properly. CVS just doesn't do it. Subversion does.
