How to check TCP connection to external IP address?

I'm trying to fire an HTTP Get request to an external server. But doing so with Java causes:



Connecting through web client opens the tomcat 6.0 application and removing the query string and context path takes one to the expected Manager web page.

I also tried ping and tracert. The request was not able to go through. Here is the cmd line outcome:



And ping too gives request timed out.

How do I diagnose the network connection? I'm behind company firewall and proxy; is firewall coming into play here? Or is the remote connection setting that needs a tweak?

No, it's the proxy. You didn't do anything to tell your Java application about the proxy server, right? Here's the tutorial you need to read: Java Networking and Proxies.
