Public Art Chicago is a not-for-profit organization documenting Chicago's vast collection of public art (estimated to be more than 4,000 objects). The collection includes works owned by the City of Chicago's Department of Public Art, Chicago Park District, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), universities, corporations, condominiums, individuals, neighborhood communities, and significant works not specifically owned by anyone, including “street” murals, mosaics, and decorated facades.
Our smartphone and tablet apps (in development) will guide users via GPS to specific objects or allow them to follow the paths of pre-set tours. Users will also be able to create their own tours and share them with connected friends, who can follow along on vicarious tours even if they are in other parts of the world.
