I used the code from Steve`s book to recover a dropped table

CREATE TABLE HOUDINI (VOILA VARCHAR2(30));
INSERT INTO HOUDINI (VOILA) VALUES ('Now you see it.');
COMMIT;
DROP TABLE HOUDINI;
1 FLASHBACK TABLE HOUDINI TO BEFORE DROP;
2 SELECT * FROM HOUDINI;

But it gives following error "Error at line 1 ORA-38305: object not in RECYCLE BIN".

Your script works as expected in my database.

A quick search on the internet revealed that tables in the SYSTEM tablespace don't go into recyclebin. Aren't you by change trying this with a user that has the SYSTEM tablespace as a default?
