I'm a Certified Java Associate - now what?

Hey all!

Alright so before I begin I must say I don't have a degree... none. I went to college for one year majoring in Music, dropped out and then did my own thing for a while. I got into finance and worked there for about 6 years (still working actually)

Anyway, long-story-short, I got really into programming (VBA was my Marijuana Code) and wound up getting my OCAJP Certification in Java SE7, hoping to get some sort of job coding.

I have 6+ years of programming experience with VBA, however not too much with Java. I really want to try Freelance, but so far not too many jobs have come up.

Has anyone maybe acheived a Java Certificate without a degree and made a career out of it? Just wondering. Or does anyone know where I can start looking for work?

I've been working on a few pet projects (Baseball Stat trackers) and whatnot, but I really like the challenge of new things!

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Again Guys!

Congrats on your OCAJP7. What kind of programming job are you looking for? Since you do have programming experience just not Java. What other programming do you know besides VBA?

Within Java at least, the next logical step is getting the OCPJP7 cert. Because the OCAJP is just not the same level of OCPJP or the old SCJP.

Since you are in the finance field, and if you are interested in I don't know stock trading apps, then see if your company has programming posts in that area.

I agree. Here's the link:
