Hello, what book is good to read for preparation for OCPJP 7? I'm not looking for a reviewer type... just plain textbook covering the topics of OCPJP that provides clear and easy to read and understand...

Thanks!

I'm not sure what do you mean by reviewer type.
I used this one and I found it really good.

As far as I know, there are at least two books which can help you prepare for the OCJP 7 exam:

1) Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 7 Programmer Exams 1Z0-804 and 1Z0-805: A Comprehensive OCPJP 7 Certification Guide
2) Java Practice Questions: Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 7 Programmer (OCPJP)

What i meant is that the second one is just practice questions

hi all!

First, thank you for your responses.

What I mean about not a reviewer type is a PURELY LECTURE book that covers the topics for OCPJP exam (of course with clear, informative and easy to understand content).

For example, if Mala Gupta's OCA Java SE7 for OCAJP reviewer has counterpart for OCPJP, then this book IS NOT what I'm looking for. (I hope you get what I mean)

So far I'm thinking of Head First Java but am not sure if all the chapters of the book covers all the topics in the exam.

Can you suggest some?

Thanks!

What's wrong with Mala Gupta's book? I didn't read it. The book I posted, in my opinion, covers the topics for OCPJP exam (of course with clear, informative and easy to understand content).

Winston,
Head First Java does not cover all the topics on the exam.

Core Java volumes I and II cover the topics on the exam. It's not a cert prep book, so it also covers many other topics that are good to know about but aren't on the exam.

^Can you recommend some book please?

So far I think Head First is not suited for me... The first chapters I think were for OCAJP...

"Think in java" by Bruce Eckel.
The fourth edition covers it all.

Also try ExamLabs for SCJP mock tests. http://www.examlab.org
This site is very useful and the solutions for the tricky questions are the best.
These mocks would prepare us to face the real time exam in a better way.

I agree. Here's the link: http://aspose.com/file-tools
