Hi,
We have our application in IBM Websphere 7.0. in Linux. the disk used space in root folder /var/log/faillog is more.(It is 128 GB.). because of this the disk used space is now 90% under /var folder of root. can anyone tell me how to handle this . I know this is because of userlogin failures of the LDAP Server but It is little bit scary to delete this var/log/faillog.

df -k .
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/rootvg-varlv
3096336 2499888 439188 90% /var

under this /var/log/faillog file is consuming 128GB.

Has Anyone have any Idea ?

I may be mistaken, but I'm fairly sure that you can truncate the log using the WAS admin webapp as part of the log view/maintenance functions.

However, if this log has a history of rapid growth, you really should look at why so many messages are being posted to it and what to fix so that they won't be.

... Although, since this is a system (non-WebSphere) log under Linux /var/log, you may need a different approach.

Usually stuff like this is handled via the logrotate Linux utility, which runs as a cron job.
