Study and lots of practice. The same way you become good at anything.

look at scjp faq page for recommended materials.

Study well then go for the exam because this is the base for you in Java technology. Try to write your own codes, practice with sample mock exams.

Good Luck!

Hi Koilraj

I just passed the OCPJP exam, it took me about 6 months in total of study, from a complete Java beginner background.
I approached it this way,
1. Read through the K and B book making various notes
2. Completed the practice exams also by K and B
3. At this point, my grades were still quite low, but there was a a pattern to the questions I kept failing, so I wrote them down and really focused on them. One thing which kept getting me were the number of objects left after garbage collection, but I finally understood how that new objects are only created when the word "new" is used, and this helped me reach the correct total everytime. Its surprising how many developers I asked who thought even String s; declarations created a new object on the stack. Not the case!
4. I then done as many online exams as possible, you can find alot on this site under the SCJP exam resources page, one site was really useful, ExamLab, and I made a small donation to be able to use the sites full functionality.

Once my grades were consistently high enough, I took the exam and I passed first time. I scored 78% but I made some simple mistakes in the exam, and now I look back, I really kicked myself about it. But a pass is a pass and life goes on. Im, really glad I done it, and I wish you the best of success. Good luck and stay focused.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
