I'm planning to do the architect certification, but as always, I have a couple of questions.

1. Can the mandatory course be taken even after giving all the three exams?
2. The Oracle website lists several courses that I could take. Am I free to choose any one of them? If I were to pay out of my pocket, I would obviously choose the one that has the lowest fees. Is this acceptable?
3. If in case, I decide to do the mandatory course after sitting through all the exams, until what time frame should I take the course so that I get my official Oracle certificate.

1. Yes you can take the mandatory course after all three exams.
2. Yes you are free to choose the least expensive one. Beware the downloadable course will not be counted as a requirement fulfiller.
3. I think there is not time limit(Not sure)

Suresh: Welcome to CodeRanch!

Joe: I agree with everything Suresh said. I don't know of a timeframe for taking the class either. I can't imagine you'd want to wait more than 6 months though. If you went through the cert, you presumably want to be certified!

Thanks Suresh & Jeanne. How do you compare this certification with TOGAF? To me this certification looks more technical than TOGAF. What is your opinion on this?

TOGAF is an architectural framework. OCMJEA is a design/Java architecture exam. TOGAF is much higher level and less hands on.
