I am using spring security with LDAP, I am deploying my application in tomcat and I am able to invoke the app successfully in the browser. But when I enter the uname/pwd and select submit in login I am getting 500 internal error. In the logs both in app logs as well as tomcat logs I didn't find any exceptions or errors every thing looks fine. What might the problem here and why internal error 500 is thrown? Please clarify.

A 500 error is the result of a bug in the application program, not in Tomcat. There should have been a stack trace generated and without that we cannot even begin to guess what the problem is.

If you're still running Tomcat 5.5 at this late date, you probably have other problems. Tomcat 8 is probably going to go into production shortly, at which time Tomcat 6 will enter end of life. Tomcat 5 is long past end of life.
