Accessing HTML within an applet through DOM

I do not think this is possible, but I'd like to confirm. If I have an HTML page that has an embedded Java applet, and that applet in turn renders an HTML document (within the applet window), is the HTML *within* the applet part of / accessible through the DOM for the parent page?

Doubtful, but I don't know much about applets. I'll move this to the Applets forum where those familiar with them are more likely to see this.

But I'd question the use of applets in this day and age. They're long past their heyday and are disabled by default in most browsers.

I agree about applets. I'm trying to understand a piece of documentation from the 90s that deals with this issue. It talks about embedding one page in another, but the crux of the issue for me is whether that HTML document within the applet gets integrated into the DOM for the parent page.

That's an interesting question but unfortunately I don't know the answer, however like Bear I think it is unlikley.
Can you post the section of documentation you are reading or a link to it.

The documentation doesn't have anything special - it's just talking about a system that has an applet that displays an HTML page (totally standard stuff). The project I'm working on in analyzing that documentation is comparing it to an ajax-y system, and the core of the analysis is whether the HTML within the applet gets integrated into the DOM (since the HTML inserted by AJAX obviously does).

I can say definitively that the HTML in the applet does not get integrated into the DOM in the same manner as fragments injected through Ajax.

Whether the separate applet DOM is accessible or not is a different question.

Great - that's what I wanted to confirm. Thanks!
