java and linux system administration

Sorry if this is too off the wall....

Do you have anything to say about Java in Linux system administration? I often use Perl and many miscellaneous scripting languages for direct sysadmin stuff, also use PHP and various other things for things like making data visible in a browser -- so that's the context. Thanks In Advance!

Well, I believe that at least part of the opencloud framework is written in java, if that's what you mean.

Java isn't used too much at the lower levels of system administration because of the need to have a JVM running and a JVM has significant resource needs. At the higher levels, it's a matter of preference.

An IDE is no substitute for an Intelligent Developer.
