On my axis webservice I am getting following error in soap-ui.

What can be the root cause? I have the xerces jar in place.

The root cause is as spelt out in the api
documentation wrote:To set the LexicalHandler for an XML reader, use the setProperty method with the property name and an object implementing this interface (or null) as the value. If the reader does not report lexical events, it will throw a SAXNotRecognizedException when you attempt to register the handler.

A possibility is that the app/web server is running (via class loader tree) a version of sax1 or sax2 without extension implemented whereas the LexicalHandler requires sax2 with extension core v1.

Then you've to look where you put "which xerces" in "which place" - that's all I can say.
