HTML/PDF FOP - Newline Character

We are generating HTML and PDF files through FOP. The data is in the database (MS SQL) in the form of XML and an XSL is applied to create a HTML and PDF (Using FOP)

Now if a new line is present in the database, the new line character is present in the database as character (10). When an XSL is applied over this XML, the new line character doesn't appear on the HTML.

We need to interpret the new line character in the database and display it on the HTML and PDF as a new line character. Any suggestions on this will be helpful.
