also since Code ranch is global forum ... specifying just NCR may not be sufficient ... you need to clearly mention the location ..

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

Please find below my queries:

1) How many days of self study is required for this certification.
2) Have you seen any advantage after doing this certifaction. I am asking this question because I had a word with some developers and they said this certication is not common in India. So, they suggested me not go go for this certication.

By NCR is mean Noida, Delhi or Gugaon.

Thanks,
Kamal

Depends on your exposure to Web Services .. If you are complete newbie .... I assume around 6-7 hours daily for 4 to 5 months (which I took as I was complete newbie to Web Services, I had never used Web service in any of my project in company). If you are experienced in Web services, you may take less time.

Again ..very subjective question ... really answer depends upon the purpose for which one does web service certification. some people do web service certification to increase their knowledge , some people do certification so that they can get good salary hike internally in company , some people do certification to show their skills to next company which they aim to join .... and many more reasons can be there.
I have always done certification to increase my knowledge around java technologies and for self satisfaction. My reason for doing a certification is simple - gain knowledge. I do certification at regular interval to make sure that I do not become rustic to studies ... you might be surprised to know that I have done web service certification in jan this year .. but I have not yet told to my company manager about it .. even my fellow team members do not know that i am now oracle certified web service developer. All this because I do certification for self satisfaction and self knowledge.

So for my advantage is I am now quite confident about web service work and If i get a chance to work on Web service in my company, I shall be able to do it (atleast basic part of it).

I am asking this question because I had a word with some developers and they said this certification is not common in India. So, they suggested me not go for this certification.
Can not really say about this ... do not know why this certification is not common in India ... but it is good certification ... certify you knowledge about web service... web service are so common tech in java web application and soa architecture ... it is up to you to decide whether to do this certification or not.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
