The focus of this book is more practical or can it be used for certification preparation, too?

I have heard from some readers that this book did a good job of preparing them for the servlet/JSP certification. It certainly covers most of the topics that are in the basic servlet/JSP certification.

However, I did not design this book as a preparation for certification. So, I'd recommend supplementing this book with a book that was designed for that purpose. Between the two, I think you should have what you need to pass the certification.
