Unable to generate application log file

In my application, I have put log4j.jar in WEB-INF/lib folder. In WEB-INF/classes, I have the following log4j.properties config file for my web application.

When i start the application, i dont see a springapp.log file getting generated. What am I missing? I have configured netbeans ide along with apache tomcat 6 internally. I deploy the application using the ide and i see that the app gets deployed under work/Catalina/localhost. Is this a problem? I can see my app working fine.

SCJP 1.4, SCWCD 1.4

Thanks in advance!
Jayashree.
