Problem with lo4j and rootLogger

I use log4j in my application. It's configured thru an file.At the beginning of my application I set the log4j log level with a command line parameter to DEBUG.

I do that because I want see my apps's debug messages. That works BUT the result is that I also get all DEBUG messages from the 3rd party - in that case the debug messages from iBATIS.

Of course I know (I read in the log4j docu) that all loggers inherit from the rootLevel so the behavior is not amazing (or is it?).
But then how can I set the log level in my application independed to the iBATIS framework?
