Any Open Source for servlet that shows continually changing images?

I want to have a page with images similar to google maps where the image shown is one part of the total image and if they move left or right it shows that next part of the image. However, I also want the backing images to be able to change based on some data that's pushed to the website.

For example, imagine that it's a map showing where all the currently logged in users live. If "Joe" is looking at the map and then "Fred" logs in, when Joe refreshes it, Fred is now on the map (in the proper place).

Does anyone know of either examples of doing something similar (NOTE: it does not have to have anything to do with maps)? In particular, I want code that allows this to work even with a high number of users checking it out.

I am afraid you have to code it yourself. Usually open source projects are there to solve common problems.
