Hi Bryson,

I work as a software engineer for living and though my passion lies somewhere else but my kid who is 9 years old has developed some tastes towards gadgets and games and digital painting
should i start exposing him to the ever expanding world of software programming?

Meenakshi,
I'd recommend starting with your son by showing him a couple of short, visual or interactive programs like I did with my sons. Show him how you can change just one number, or one or two lines of code, to do something new and cool. If he comes up with his own ideas for making the programs better (changing colors, moving things, changing shapes - see my other post in this form at Teach Your Kids to Code: When to start? for more ideas), I'd say it's a good time to start working on short coding adventures.
Let him work a while, come up with ideas that you and he can code together, and ask questions.
In Teach Your Kids to Code, I try to show the "why" of learning each new skill with a fun example or cool graphical app, then go through just enough teaching and explanation for the parent to help their child get the "how".
I hope that's of help, and enjoy coding with your son!
Bryson
