In March, when the clocks jump forward an hour, they change from 1am to 2am in the UK. In the US, they go from 2am to 3am.

Will the exam give us this information? Will they tell us to assume we are based in the US? Or will it tell us nothing and we HAVE to assume we're in the US?

You get to assume you are in the US. When I took the beta, it told you that you were in the US, but not which weekend it was. (I complained about this during my beta). When I took the second beta*, this was improved. They told you the date of daylight savings time. I don't remember if they told you the time (2am), but you can definitely assume they are asking using the US system.

* the Java 7 -> Java 8 upgrade exam and OCP are different exams so I took both in beta. Which means I'm double certified!

Thanks, Jeanne, I'll bear that in mind. It would be sensible for the questions to tell us what time the change occurs, or for the correct answer not to depend on this information, but you never know. Unless told otherwise, I'll assume I'm in the US and go with US conventions.

Sounds like you've started taking those exams for fun! How about 1Z0-813 next, for a hat trick?

It would be sensible to not include this topic at all. Some people live in places where they don't observe daylight savings time. It's like testing a pile of edge cases.

No. I took both betas while we were working on the OCP book.

I agree. Even more confusing, I'd say, when you're taking the exam around the end of March in a country where the clocks change, but not in the same way! Everyone around you is talking about clocks going forward at 1am, but you need to remember that, for the exam, it goes forward at 2am. Arghh!

Yup! Can you do me a favor? When you take the exam, can you note if they tell you the time clocks change in the daylight savings question and reply to this thread? (presuming you get a question on this; questions are random so it is possible you don't).

I live in the US so I know when we change our clocks. Which means that didn't jump out at me. It'll catch your attention more.

In the exam, will they also specify that a certain date in March or November follows daylight savings? It seems to vary for each year and each country . In US Daylight saving time starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. In 2015 it was Mar 8 and 2016 it was Mar 13.

And in UK it goes forward on last Sunday in March and goes back last Sunday in October.

Ramya,
Yes, the exam now specifies the date. Phew! (It didn't in the beta and they improved that based on feedback)

Sure, I'm taking the exam a week on Tuesday and this is definitely something I'll remember because it annoys me I'll update this topic shortly to let you all know what I got.

Right, I took the exam today and they do tell you what time the change takes place. They used a New York time zone and said that, whenever it was in March, clocks changed from 2am to 3am.

Thanks. Have a cow for confirming they fixed that and now tell you the time the changes place!
