I am an InstallShield developer, Boston area. Things are slow and I am considering taking contracts away from the area. I have never done this before, and am not sure of the things that I need to be aware of. Has anyone put together a list of the things to consider before doing this (pros and cons). I know that there are websites that can compare cities and cost of living (ex: http://www.bestplaces.net/cost-of-living/). Being that I own a house here, and will need to rent a furnished apartment elsewhere (I don't want to do hotels, etc.), how to find such a place (will they do short term rentals?). What do I need to consider as far as taking care of mail, medical, someone to check on the house, rates\per diem\etc. I have never run across this in my area, but has anyone seen a guaranteed work for x length of time contract (Contracts can be cancelled because of product direction changes, funding, etc.)? What am I not thinking of here? Thanks.
