The questions are (mostly) different. There's a giant pool of questions for the exam and the odds of getting the same ones are quite low! That way you can't memorize them. The exam results do tell you areas you got a question wrong so you know what to study more!

Hi Mark Wheeeler,

First of all, a warm welcome to CodeRanch!

Sorry to hear you have failed the OCAJP8 certification exam.

The questions will be randomly picked from a pool of 250 or 500 (or even more) questions. So it's very likely that the questions on your second attempt will differ completely from your first attempt. And even if they would be exactly the same, your chances to pass on a second attempt (without additional studying) will be very slim because you don't know which questions you have answered correctly. So the only thing you can do to pass the exam is to study hard, prepare yourself thoroughly and improve your Java knowledge!

If you use the search function, you'll find plenty of topics with advice to prepare (and ace) the OCA exam. Here are a few:
  • Studying so hard just to fail(1z0-808)
  • Failing Java SE 8 Programmer I
  • Bad Experience with OCA 7 exams
  • Any tricks about how to manage the 120 min for so many question?
  • second failed OCAJP
  • Need some advice after failing the exam

  • Hope it helps!
    Kind regards,
    Roel

Hi All. I've failed Z10-808 exam again. Scored 64%, missed 1% to the "pass" result.
Besides practical tasks I've solved Entuware tests as well as K&B tests. Also re-read and solved tests from Boyarsky&Selikoff guide. It didn't change the result - "fail" on the exam.

I've obtained a strong feeling that Z10-808 exam has little with testing real Java knowledge and even less in common with real life work.

I've given up for the moment. Good luck for those who are still trying!
