Problem accessing classes from /WEB-INF/classes directory

I have packaged my struts program into a .war file format and have deployed teh same in weblogic 7.0. But when i try to access any of the classes in the directory /WEB-INF/classes, i get this exception : ClassNotFoundException. But when i package the classes directory in a separate jar file and add it to weblogic classpath, it works fine. I am not able to understand, why my application is not able to read the class files from the directory /WEB-INF/classes in my web archive ( .war file ) ?

Try unzipping the war file and check out the name for the WEB-INF folder.
Is it WEB-INF or web-inf. This problem happens expecially with the windows platform
