Is your question in the context of multiprocessor machines? When I first read this post, I thought the answer would be to assign an ip address to each server in the cluster but that seems to be too simple - I mean if you ever configured a server in Weblogic console, you know that you have to assign the listening address(ip). In that context, I'd think for performance reasons you'd add servers with unique ip addresses to your cluster.

Well I'm not sure of the of the IP address assignment... I mean I have configured a managed server in weblogic too many times, but the listening address for the servers to be configured on a machine are always the same, and they are never different for the same machines with multiple CPU's.

I was going thru some documentation about weblogic for better performance.
It says the configuration of managed servers in a cluster should be ona 1:1 basis witht he cpu's i.e one managed server per cpu.
How do I do this?
Does anyone have any clue to how this is to be done? I mean how do I actually map one managed server to one cpu?
I don't think you need to specifically tie a managed server to a particular CPU but rather the number of managed servers should be numprocs-1. Let the extra processor do the O/S things. Alot of it depends on how busy the managed servers are.
Having said that you can tie a process to a single CPU in some operating systems. What O/S are you on?

The environment is on solaris. also the other thing I wanna know is
If I have the managed servers listening on same IP Address and different ports, and if the requests are being distributed to the managed servers is via a load-balancer(not a weblogic server, but an external load-balancer) am I implementing a cluster in the right way or not? and if now why?
