hi, i think question is not clear to You
My question is that whetherWebLogic server can act as Web server or application server or both?
Now if we talk about IIS server, it is Web server, not an application server .What about Bea/WebLogic server?

It's an application server

From WebLogic Server 8.1 Features and Changes

Welcome to BEA WebLogic Server 8.1! As the leading application server, BEA WebLogic ServerTM implements J2EE 1.3 technologies, Web services, and other leading Internet standards to provide a reliable framework for highly available, scalable, and secure applications. WebLogic Server's seamless integration of disparate, heterogeneous platforms and applications enables your network to leverage existing software investments and share the enterprise-class services and data that are crucial to building mission-critical e-business applications.

From Configuring Web Server Functionality for WebLogic Server:

In addition to its ability to host dynamic Java-based distributed applications, WebLogic Server is also a fully functional Web server that can handle high volume Web sites, serving static files such as HTML files and image files as well as servlets and JavaServer Pages (JSP). WebLogic Server supports the HTTP 1.1 standard

As Carol has mentioned in paragraph that BEA is a complete Application Server which is built on top of Webserver. So apart from configuring it as webserver you can also exploit features which is only supported in Application Server framework.

So the bottomline is that BEA is a Application Server
