I had a heck of a time obtaining an evaluation copy of Commerce Suite 5.1. I looked all over IBM's site for a download link with no joy. I finally had to log into the IBM developer partnernet and order an evaluation from the IBM shopping mall. It cost me $24.00 for an evaluation copy. Furthmore, I still was never presented with a download option. My evaluation will be shipped in 7-10 working days.
If anyone has come across an evaluation download, please share it with us. -thanks

John,
Since you just asked me if anyone had responded to your post I decided to check and see. Sadly, no one has yet, so I'll just let you know I checked.
Any WebSphere/Commerce Suite experts out there?
John

Hi John Newell,
I am not in a position to help you in the commerce suite area. Our company will however be providing us training in a week's time. I will post my comments over here then.

I do not believe there is a "downloadable" version of WCS 5.1. It is currently only available for NT 4.0 and I heard from WebSphere 2001 last week that the AIX version will be released shortly (the final test was completed last week). The eval copy you ordered from the PartnerWorld site is actually a full version (for both development and deployment but you cannot use it work commercial purpose) and I got my copy within a couple of weeks so you should be fine. The installation was not easy, you have to have 512MB RAM and 500 MHz CPU as minimum requirement to be able to install a development environment. You will learn to be patient to pay the price for the fact that WCS 5.1 has the right architecture (MVC, EJB).

i am working on wcs5.1 and doing well on most of the areas.but in the auction part i am not able to change the the status of future auctions.or you can say i am not able to put the auction task in schedular. In the wcs5.1 help they mention to run the sql script that is wcs.auction.sql but this is not there in schema folder or anywhere else in the wcs install directory.i have manually update the schconfig table and do the status 'A' for all the auction jobs ,even then i am not successful.
Anybody have any idea about it.

Hi all! In V5.1, I have been successful in publishing a new store from the store services (as if it was rocket science! *wink!*). However, I am unable to do so from the command line, using the <code>publishstore.bat</code>. What is troubling me is the parameter <code>-CONFIG C:\Websphere\WCS\instances\demo\xml\demo.xml</code>.

I have changed the line to 8 char DOS names, and re-checked that I'm using the right case, but still the machine can't find the right config file... what do you think I'm doing wrong?

Cheers, pd

Hi All
Please ask me if you have any questions regarding any version of WebSphere Commerce Suite including Net.Commerce 3.1/3.2. Send me any questions you have regarding installation, configuration, and devevlopment for a WCS 4.1/5.1 based site.

If you have trouble displaying the adminconsole after creating an instance try this page at IBM:

At my company, we have Commerce Suite 5.1 in production. We have an Exchange where our products are bought and sold. WCS allows amazing amounts of flexibility, and our exchange is very successful. Setting up development instnaces, with everything on one machine, is difficult. Distributed setup is not as hard. I really enjoy the product, and find that there is a ton that you can do with it. I would recommend using as much of the products core functionality as possible-not going the customization route.

Hi John,
I have had a look at the partnerworld site. I have not been able to find a link to ordering the evaluation copy.
Could you plz post a link to the page where you ordered the eval copy.

HI All.
First of all thanks to all of you for taking ur time to help each other. I am a new guy to WCS. It would be great if one of you could just give me a "snap shot points" you encountered during your working with WCS. Only if you have one with u already.
I know there are lots of fix packs and config things to get it working. If any different thought pls advise me if u have time.
Thanks
Mahesh
