IBM WebSphere Certification Test 488

I want to take IBM Test 488(IBM WebSphere Application Server, Advanced Single Server Edition for Multiplatforms, V4.0) for WebSphere certification. The test objective seems cover a lot of area: Sevlet/JSP, JDBC, EJB, VisualAag, WebService ... I am wondering if anybody can provide me some information about how to prepare this test, e.g. What books/resources should I use for study? Which area should I focus on ... Anything regarding this test is great appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Well, I'll tell you the usual thing you'll hear around here - nothing trumps having experience with the product. Download the trial version from IBM and play with it for a bit, to get a feel for what it can do.
As for books and other materials, check out http://www-1.ibm.com/certify/tests/edu488.shtml , which is IBM's page of listed recommended texts for the exam.
Between these two sources of information, you should pass - I did.

Hi Theodore,
Thanks so much for your advice! I did checked the IBM site for study materials. Did you read ALL of them? If possible, could you recommend one or two books that you used for the test?
Usually I use "WebSphere Handbook" to study WebSphere. It is pretty good - at least for WebSphere 3.5. Did you use it for 4.0? If so, which chapters do you think are important for passing the exam?
Thanks again!

You definitely want to download and read the WAS V4.0 Application Handbook as V4.0 is substantially different from V3.5. The last time I checked, it was imcomplete and updates were being posted every couple of weeks. However, it is still a good source of info.

I agree - the WebSphere Handbook is probably the best source of information I can recommend on how the new version works.
That was my primary literary source of info - I use the Java technologies already so I just brushed up on the specific standards, and played with WAS a bit to be familiar with the ins and outs of the system. (It doesn't hurt to read other redbooks related to WAS 4, by the way.. do a search for them.)

Hi Xiaolu Gao,
I'm also planning to take that exam sometime. What particular edition of WAS 4.0 are you using?
Many thanks
