Hi,
Since Java is taking new dimension with
1. Java TV
2. Jini
3. JNI
It would be advisible to have topics like this in this
site.
with regards,

JNI has been around a while, but I don't remember seeing many messages about it here. It seems if it were to dominate one of the general forums, we should make a forum for it.
A similar thing can be said for Java TV and JINI, but since they're newer ..... maybe we should create the forums and see what happens.
For me, the big thing is that I don't want to create the forums and have them sit there empty. That would look pretty dumb.
Anybody else have some thoughts on this?

I can see that Jini might warrant a forum eventually, but the others (to me) just fall into the category of yet more APIs. We don't have a forum for JavaMail, for example, and that already generates more traffic than any of these new suggestions.
My view is that there are some APIs which stand alone and tend to drive development and questions, and some which are only ever used in conjunction with others. The likes of JNDI, JavaMail, Java2d, Java3D, cryptography, JavaCard, Message Services, Shared Data, Phone, Drag and Drop, JAF, Security, JNI etc, etc. are usually just a (small?) part of another project which headlines with Servlets/JSP, EJB, CORBA, XML, Swing, Applets etc.
The odd one out here is JDBC, which should fit in the "small part" category, but seems to assume a larger importance in many peoples' minds. But that's OK, we already have a forum for JDBC.
So I vote for "wait for the traffic". It's hard enough informing new vistors about the structure as it is. If we get a significant number of posts centering on any particular Java product or API, then it is a candidate for a forum, but let's not build them until they're needed.
Just my tuppence.

Can I also suggest a new forum for Collections ... I know to those Java Jedi's out there they are a piece of cake, but when us greenhorns are getting started they can be a bit tricky ... don't know where to put any questions that I have!!

Collections stuff can go in "Java in General (beginner)" for now. Maybe if there gets to be enough traffic, we'll create a forum for it and move the threads there.
