If war is changed after deployment ?

I wanted to know if I create a ear file and install it using console and start and stopserver if I wanted to change the war file then what do I need to do ?
If my application does not work with that ear file. Do I need to create a whole new ear and war file? Can I just change the war and from console start and stop ? Or do I need to start and stop server ?
