hello I want to use the WASPreupgrade software to migrate from a WAS 3.5.3 on a windows 2000 system to a WAS 5 on alinux system. If I run this software on the first machine, would it be able to continue running as before? (I read:"The WASPreUpgrade tool saves selected files from the Version 3.5.x and Version 4.x /bin directory. It also exports the existing application server configuration from the repository.") Between linuw and windows, configurations are they compatible? thanks.
Yes they are compatible. After you run pre on your w2k machine you will have to go into the websphere_backup.xml file and change all of the node names to reference your new machine. Simple search and replace will do this. After this is done you will be ready to run WASPostUpgrade. Remember to bring over the whole backup directory!

I forgot to mention, you also might need to change paths in the websphere_backup.xml file also. Examples: db2java.zip path, variables... Basically look for any path that points to something outside the websphere35/appserver directory structure and correct the path to reflect the location on your new machine.

thank you for your help, but I have another question about db2java.zip If I am right, WAS 3.5 use a db2 base to store admin config, and was 5 use xml files. So DB2 is not used with was5 and I can delete these informations in websphere_backup.xml?
