WebSphere AppServer stops if error occurs in StrutsApp

Hi,
My Struts-App is installed on WebSphereAppServer 5.0. The application is reading and writing data to a database. If an error occurs while writing to the database, WebSphere is shutting down (no crash !!!), which is absolutely not desired!! Does anybody know about this problem ? What causes the shutdown? Can I configure this somewhere.
