Multiple JVMS?

Does websphere base edition which uses 1 server create multiple JVM's when required or does it uses 1 JVM only?

Each server instance uses one JVM.

No. Each server is 1JVM and that particular server doesn't create jvms by itself or uses the other jvms.

Let me put it this way - Each server runs in a JVM. A server can not be spawned across JVMs. A clustered environment is different where you have multiple servers in a cluster and each server runs in a separate JVM.

The WAS base JVM creation utilities can be used to create multiple JVMS for deploying several different applications but the JVMs can only be managed on a single JVM basis by installing the admin application into each JVM.
