This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
IBM renamed WSAD to RAD when it went to version 6.
WSAD and RAD are, for the most part, identical. This name change not much different than how Microsoft uses a different name for each new version of Windows. (This is not as drastic a change as when they moved from VisualAge, by the way.) [ January 04, 2006: Message edited by: Marc Peabody ]
RAD uses Eclipse 3.0 look and feel. The bigger changes are really how they connect to the server. Whereas WSAD5/WAS5 had tight integration in the test environment, RAD6/WAS6 are closer to a separate IDE and server environment.
Rational made products on its own when it was an independent company. IBM bought Rational. IBM seems to like the Rational name so instead of renaming things to IAD (IBM Application Developer) and IBM Rose, they went the other way. You'd have to ask them why.
I like WSAD than RAD6. Sometimes RAD6 is really testing our patience and some weird things are happening.
For ex. I'm hvg a breakpoint in a jsp when I try to execute it, the controls goes to some other jsp in different folder but same name, even thoug it is not really processing tht. if I want to see whts happening in the original jsp, I couldnt.
Try to work out by setting up Step Filter in Workbench -->Preference ...look for debug options. Set that jsp (the one you don't want to go in) in the step filter option. While debuggin, turn on the "step filter" option. See if this works.

My uneducated guess? IBM was going overboard naming all their software products Websphere. Real example: "Websphere ILE RPG for iSeries". So it was probably a relief to them to have some other marketing name to apply.
I’ve looked at a lot of different solutions, and in my humble opinion Aspose is the way to go. Here’s the link: http://aspose.com
