Setting and reading environmental variables in Websp V6.0

I need to set a environmental variable for the application server.
Based on the value it holds i am loading different property file.
I am setting the env var as navigating in the following manner from admin console
Admin Console ---> Application server -----> sever_name ---> Java and process management ---> Environment Entries
And then settting my env variable that i need.
And in my code i am reading it as
The problem is the above line returns null, i donno why. i restarted the server and i even redeployed the application. still it returns null. ANy idea why???
