I think the silence means there hasn't been any news on WebSphere and JEE 5. I just did a quick search and found IBM is looking at 2008.

IBM has released an "EJB3 Feature Pack" for WAS Version 6.1 that will allow you to deploy EJBs that follow the EJB3 specification to WAS. See this link for details.

It's really more something for developers to play with, though, than something you'd want to put into production.
