Oracle crashing linux system

I have installed Oracle 9i (9.2.x) on a Linux box which is moderately used otherwise. It has 256MB ram but every so often the system freezes (no remote logins, I/O errors for everything you try to do) and I have to reboot the server.
Is it bcz its running out of memory? are there any configurables that i can change to make Oracle run on a lighter memory usage? the DB itself is very very lightly used so I don't need a lot of performance.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I couldn't find much on the net about Oracle 9i and Linux

Hi.
Please check the minimum memory requirement. I believe it is 512M.
Other than that you need to provide much more info other than "it crashes"...
Hope that helps.
