Girish.
I am taking all the DBA classes at UC-Irvine Extension.
So I have the Oracle materials. I also bought the self-test software to take practice exams.
I think their website is http://www.stsware.com
Good Luck

hi all, I'm planning to take the Oracle Certification to become an OCA..I just picked up Oracle but I do have some database and SQL experience...I'm totally new to Oracle and have to start from scratch..Could you tell me how much time it will take to become an OCA?? Could you also tell me what books I should be reading and whether it is really important to buy the software from SelfTest...I am planning to buy the book
OCA/OCP : introduction to Oracle9i SQL study guide / Chip Dawes, Biju Thomas
Could you tell me how useful this book was to anyone who bought it..I would really appreciate it and thank you for your time to give me this information.
Thanks again

ananth, try finding the Oracle materials on EBay. I hear that you can find them there sometimes. But it might be costly, because Oracle sells them for the entire price of the class. They won't sell them seperately. But I heard they are about a $200 value for each class.

Girish and other 031 aspirants, 1Z0-031 was just a hype , nothing else and I got 90% . As for Whizlabs 031 Mock Exams, you can try their trial version for free and then buy a full version in late december. Also you can try cert21.com's free 40 questions on 031 test. Another 18 free questions from STS. (dbdomain.com). So you can grab 88 free questions instantly, these will give you an idea , what level of questions are asked in the exam.
all the best.

I was reviewing the demo questions at cert21.com and some of the questions seem like they are not part of the actual test objective. There are questions on
1. Tablespace
2. Datafile
3. Drop function command
Are these topics part of the real test?

Hi all, Happy new year..
I am planning to do 1Z0-007 exams, I really confused. I had an official Oracle material, which are from Oracle University? Are they sufficient for the exam? Plus that, can you recommend to me the best free self-test software or any bdf materials. Please give me the exact link for the software of the bdf file because when I tried the above links I really get lost. Are the bdf documents worth than the self-test software’s or not??
I appreciate your help many thanks in advance.

Hi sumit,
Indeed i found around 90 practice test questions from the links u gave me. I presume this test concentrates more on the new features in the ORACLE architechture.
So off to the exam. Will get bac.
Thanks

Actually the naming policy is that you have your real first name, and also your real last name. There are two fields in the screen.
I can't really help you on bdf files, but you can always search Yahoo. as far as free testing software, you can always download Demos of the testing software which will give you a few question. The Oracle U. Material is where every question comes from, if it is not in there then it won't be on the test.
Now my Oracle U. book was for 8i, so it didn't cover the Merge command, iSQLPlus. But everything else was there.
Thanks
Mark

I thought that the 2nd one was quite tough. Lot of "select the best 3 answers from the 7 options below.."
(I counted 26)
My advise is to read the oracle documentation
http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/doc_library/release2/index.htm
Rather than spend money on books (with errors).

Mark,
I have started looking into Oracle certifications. I noticed your comment about 1 down, 3 to go. I assume you are going for the DBA Certified Professional.
I have a few questions that the Oracle site can't, or doesn't seem to, address.
What do you know about the PL/SQL Developer cert? Does this cert make more sense than the DBA Associate for someone who is a developer?
Is there a data modeling cert or component of one of the other certs?
Thanks and congrats on passing the cert exam!

I am reading the sybex book for 007. Do I really need to memorize the functions to pass the exam?
How often the function related questions appear on exam?
Thanks

John when I looked at the PL/SQL Developer Ceritifaction, it seemed to me to be leaning heavily towards Oracle Forms and Reports, which I don't want to do.
Now funny thing on that note. We currently have a consulting company rewriting our Purchasing System in Oracle Forms and Reports. It is going good, but I just don't see a huge market for Oracle Forms and Reports, there seems to be too many limitations, and the App Server is the biggest pain in the ^&$, to install, patch, and new releases make previous built forms not work and have porting issues. It has been a major nightmare.
That is why I chose the DBA role, even though I am a developer. On that note, the best course to take for a developer to code to Oracle is Thomas Kyte's book "One on One Expert" by Wrox publishers. Great information that you won't find anywhere else.

I passed this in 1999, but didn't think there was much of a future for it then, even though I had worked with it commercially.
Trying to design for re-usability in a PL/SQL package was tough.Tough? Did I say tough? I meant impossible.
That was when I decided to switch to Java and have stayed the course since.
Hope it pays off !

The Oracle material is documentation you can buy, or receive at Oracle certified trainors. It is not something that can be given away.
Please remove your post requesting it. I won't remove it myself, I thought you might like to.

Have you checked in the Bunkhouse for a review, or on Amazon for their reviews. I think you can get some good ideas from there.
I haven't read the book, so unfortunately I can't help much there.
Good Luck on the test.
