When I am testing a servlet on tomcat, the tomcat keep on shutdown automatically.
Anybody know any reasons can shutdown tomcat?
My servlet is a bit long (20 pages) and it query SQL server database using JdbcOdbcDriver. Is any problem with servlets or database can cause tomcat down? Where can I find error message?
Thank you for your help in advance!

Do you use System.exit() anywhere in your code? If you do, that's why Tomcat shuts down.

No, certainly not. I use tomcat4.0.3 on window 2000. A few times It ask me: the page cann't show offline, do you want to connect or try again.
Most of time It keeping shutdown without any notice. I installed tomcat before, it never happened.

Most of the time, that dialog box (the page cannot be shown offline) occurs when Internet Explorer can't understand the concept of 'localhost', and that there might be someone listening on 'localhost'. It thinks it needs to be connected to the internet, but it doesn't.

Do you have a NIC? As long as you have a NIC and TCP/IP installed, you should be ok.

Otherwise, you have to install the Loopback Adapter. There is a thread discussing this problem here:
