HI
When i try to start Tomcat,it gives some exception and the second window closes, so i ran catalina.bat and got this message

but i have the CATALINA_HOME variable set in my autoexec like this

So i tried to set my CATALINA_HOME variable from the command prompt but after doing that Tomcat gives exceptions and stops again. And this time running catalina.bat gave me this...

I am totally confused. Please any suggestions would be appreciated..
Cheers
Taash

There is actually a file called startup that you should run rather than catalina.bat.
At the command prompt, type the command "set". This will show you all of your environment variables. Check there to see if CATALINA_HOME is correct.

I have seen things you people would not believe, attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion, c-beams sparkling in the dark near the Tennhauser Gate. All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

hi Adam,
I was running the startup.bat for starting Tomcat, but then when the second window just vanished after flickering,it gave me no ideas as to what had happened, thats when a friend suggested that running catalina.bat would give me some idea whats wrong.and when i did that it showed me the exceptions part..i don't know whether it was right and also how can i resolve it. Please help if u have any ideas???
Thanks

OK, but did you check if your CATALINA_HOME envvar is correct at the command prompt before you tried to launch tomcat?

Hi Adam,
I checked and rechecked that the variable is set properly , that is why i was confused as to what was happeneing.
Anyways theres good news i had JDK1.3 on my machine and today i changed it to J2SDK1.4 & so now tomcat has started working. I hope not to stop again..I think that exception and that CATALINA_HOME enviornment error could have been 'coz of hte java version, but if so how was it working earlier. I hope i get the answer to that somehow, but till then Hurray atleast i can start working on my servlets and Jsps

Thanks a lot all of u for ur help and time. i am really grateful
Cheers

Hi Taash,
one thing - you don't need that CLASSPATH setting. Both the Java path and the Tomcat path are not necessary and I've no idea what effect they might have.
Tomcat can work out where all the Java SDK and its own stuff is from JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME.
Glad you got it working though,
Adam
