Does Tomcat contain a web server or is it just a JSP/servlet container.
Plz clarify?
Why do we need apache webserver ?

Tomcat is not just a JSP/Servlet container. You can use it as a standalone webserver.
Anyway, for serving static files, the performance of the Apache webserver is better, so your best option is integrate Tomcat as a plugin within the regular Apache server or any other commercial Web server.
