Servlets not found in ROOT dir - OK, in examples????

I usually dont mess with Tomcat....not a big fan but I have a friend that needs it set up so I figured Id give him the newest stable I could find ... 4.1.18. Everything is running, the Tomcat stuff works fine & all the examples work with no problem at all. BUT I made a classes folders in the ROOT directory (would it kill them to do that???) Made a quicky test servlet...NFG, I take the servlet & throw it in the examples folder, works fine with the examples path added to the url......what the heck gives with this bucket of bolts! Thanks for any help you can give!

I am guessing that the context path for the root app needs to uncommented in the server.xml file

Found & tried that still NFG, I also noticed that this thing almost shuts this poor laptop down! Its sucking up memory like there is no tomorrow so I dumped it & put a 3x version (that actually runs) on the machine...... thanks anyways.
