Is it neccassary to restart the tomcat container when you add a war file to the root?
How do you install the war file using the tomcat web manager?
Thx

It is not necessary to restart the tomcat container if u are adding a new .war file, tomcat will auto-unpack and deploy it. But if u are replacing an existing war file with an updated one, then u need to restart the container as the old classes will be in memory
I'm not comfortable with 'manager'
