I'm creating a web application where you can uplaod a Zip file containing .jpg and .avi files. The jar file can have a size of 128megs. My problem is that the server start a thread that unzip the Zip file, copy the files, that resize them to a specific width and same them to a web directory. If I don't check the available memory and wait a couple of time before processing another image I get a OutOfMemory error. What can I do to increase the Tomcat memory, the server is on a Win98 machine and a cannot change the OS. Tomcat is version 4.0.1

It looks to me like the JAVA_OPTS options in the Catalina.bat file used to start Tomcat would be where you would put command line memory settings. See the SDK /docs/tooldocs/tools.html for the meaning of the settings.
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
