How many web applications circa for Tomcat standalone?

I have been wondering how many web applications one can run in Tomcat standalone mode.
I will have 2 jsp/servlet-using applications, the other possibly 50 will be web sites consisting of static web sites only.
any ideas and/or experience will be appreciated!

I think it's less a matter of what Tomcat can handle than what the server is capable of.
