I currently use TomCat on a Windows 2000 Professional system and it works fine. Will it work fine also on a Windows XP Professional System?

normaly you shouldn't run into problems when you installed the sun JDK and not use this service stuff. But also when you install it as a service there shouldn't be a problem.
But best way to find out is to try it. I think it is no production environment so you aren't in danger

I run my site on XP Home Edition SDK 1.4.1 / Tomcat 4.04 - it has been up for weeks at a time with no problem. I first installed it as a service but then decided I like the control of being able to start and stop it. Being able to see the output of System.out.print in a command window is handy too.
I've never gotten a Blue Screen of Death with XP - got the White Screen of Confusion a couple of times, but no BSD.

I just switched my main dev box from Win2000 to XP, and so far haven't had any issues running any of my previous dev tools, including Tomcat 4.0.6. (I'm running that version since I can step through JSP pages in IDEA's debugger - a very handy feature btw!)

Rob,
Thanks for your reply. what really interests me the most about what you said has to do with Idea's debugger. I too have discovered that Idea's IntelliJ IDE is the best. I wonder how popular it is becoming? It certainly makes development life a lot easier!
