Error starting Tomcat 4.1.27

From unzipping the package on a WinXP Pro machine running Java 1.4.1.03. Only minor changes were made to the server.xml file (turned on the servlet invoker and added a context path). This server.xml file was acquired from another developer (who has no issues running Tomcat on his nearly identical box).

Did the examples run before you plugged in this foreign server.xml file?
Is your friend running exactly the same Tomcat version?
