Disabling listings of a directory

i dont want the contents of the directory to be listed under a web applictaion but i had disabled this by setting the listings attribute in conf\web.xml to false.but when i try after doing this ,tomcat shows page can not be displayed page which comes if there in no network .i want a customary page to come for this .how shall i do this

Sounds like you need to look at this section of web.xml:

(from the default web.xml in the \conf directory)
Tomcat looks for the files on this list before showing that error.
