Tomcat Problems

I'm trying to learn all about JSP and tomcat.
I've installed the latest binaries and got it working properly.
I use IntelliJ IDEA to write the code.

First problem I have is, that I can't find a way to deploy to tomcat directly from within idea.
Second when I've deployed manualy through the /manager section everything works, but when I fix something and I recompile my .war file and try to deploy my new version things go wrong. tomcat says that the file is already on the server, even if I've undeployed the old version. I have to go to the tree structure of the tomcat installation and delete it manualy, after I have to stop the server because xp would complain that the file is still in use.

All this together renders tomcat pretty useless to me. I can't hardly imagine that this is the way to work because it is so time consuming to do little things.

Any ideas what is going wrong here?

During development you might as well skip the WAR stage and copy the class files to WEB-INF/classes directly.

You were right.
Skipping the war step is the fastest and easiest way.

Thanks for your help
